First Day of the New Year at Anglesey Abbey – Winter Walk in the English Countryside

January and February are the coldest months in England, although, the latter brings more sunshine. Frost does not last long and snow only makes an appearance occasionally. When it does, English villages look as if they are straight out of a fairytale.

One of our local National Trust garden, Anglesey Abbey, was the perfect place to spend the first day of the New Year. The day was cloudy, with a temperature of just 2°C.
'The Twelve Days of Christmas' was the theme, with children following a map around the gardens to find each giant snowman and read the words from the well-known Christmas carol. Each snowman was beautifully painted by artists and will be auctioned once the event ends.

Winter in England is quite mild compared to other parts of Europe, so it was lovely to see the first daffodils and snowdrops appearing so early in the season.

As we were leaving the clouds began to disperse and we were treated to the most beautiful winter sunset.
